Russia Praises Iran's Objection To Foreign Intervention In Syria

Moscow, Nov 7, IRNA -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday commended Iranian foreign policy of opposing foreign intervention in Syria. Underlying the necessity of resolving the Syrian crisis by the Syrian people themselves, he told reporters that Tehran weighs on non-intervention of foreign countries in Syria and does its utmost in this respect. Lavrov said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is closely monitoring situation in Syria and Iran is committed to Geneva agreement by Syria contact group. The contact group called for the peaceful transition of power in Syria, and the Syrian government officials could join a new government of national unity. He said Iranian delegation along with their Turkish and Egyptian counterparts are active to meet the Geneva agreement articles, as it was suggested by Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi. The Russian foreign minister said Iran also activated Non-Aligned Movement by hosting Summit of Leaders in Tehran last August./end
