PM receives IFC vice-president

(KPL) Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, received yesterday at his office in Vientiane a courtesy visit of Mr. Lars Thunell, International Finance Corporation Executive Vice President and CED.
Mr. Lars Thunell arrived here on 22 October on a two-day working visit to Laos to meet key figures of the government and private sectors.
During the amicable talks, PM Bouasone praised and highly valued the visit to Laos of Mr. Lars Thunell as a contribution to enhancing the relation of friendship and co-operation between Laos and the IFC. He also expressed thanks to the IFC for its supports to the Lao PDR. Mr. Lars Thunell informed PM Bouasone of the purpose of his visit and expressed congratulations to Laos for its achievements gained in the past few years, especially in the field of economic management. He also praised all efforts made by Laos to improve the environment for investment and for economic expansion, which is reflected in the increase of foreign direct investment, particularly in the sector of mining, hydropower and agriculture.
Mr. Lars Thunell also informed PM Bouasone about the intention of the IFC and the World Bank to support the development work and strategy of the Lao Government, and confirmed that he would do his utmost to coordinate the IFC, the World Bank and the Lao PDR. During his stay in Vientiane, Mr. Lars Thunell met with a number of Lao leaders, including Minister of Finance, and Acting-Minister of Energy and Mining.
