Sugar mill in Savannakhet to be complete early 2009

(KPL) Mitrphol sugar mill construction in Savannakhet province, which started in May, is now 60% completed and more than US$17 million has been invested in the construction.
Located 81 km from the centre of the province, the mill is expected to complete and kick off the production early next year.
The mill is an investment of a Thai company Mitrphol, to which the Lao government has granted land concession to plant sugarcanes and set up a sugar mill on over 10,000 ha in Ardsapangthong district Savannakhet province.
It also promotes the sugarcane plantation on over 1,000 ha in four districts of Ardsaphangthong, Phalanesay, Ardsaphone and Sonboury and plans to have 1,000 ha in Phalanesay district planted with sugarcane next year to ensure adequate supply to its factory.
Over 140 local workers are being employed by the Thai company, excluding 400 other daily paid workers.
