3rd ESCAP ministerial meeting opens today in Tehran

TEHRAN,Nov.11(MNA) - The third ministerial meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) opened today in Tehran. The four-day event will be held on the theme of “Infrastructure Public-Private Partnerships for Sustainable Development”, with a focus on the transportation, energy, and telecommunications sectors. The two previous editions of the meeting were held in South Korea in 2007 and Singapore in 2010. ESCAP is the regional arm of the United Nations Secretariat for the Asian and Pacific region. It was established in 1947 to encourage economic cooperation among its member states. It is one of five regional commissions under the administrative direction of United Nations headquarters. Sixty-two countries are members of ESCAP, of which fifty-eight are from Asia and the Pacific. ESCAP’s regional focus is managing globalization through programs in environmentally sustainable development, trade, and human rights.
