OPCW director general calls Iran an active member

TEHRAN,Nov.28(MNA) – The director general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Ahmet Uzumcu, has called Iran a very active and effective member of the organization.
He made the remarks in The Hague, the Netherlands, on Monday during a meeting with the Iranian deputy foreign minister, Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh, who is attending the seventeenth session of the conference of the states parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.
The conference opened on November 26 and continues for five days.
Akhoundzadeh said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran adheres to its commitments under the Chemical Weapons Convention.”
He went on to say that along with the international community, Iran, as one of the primary victims of chemical weapons, wants the world to be free of the threat, production, and use of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons.
