Hamas keeps biting Israel

TEHRAN,Dec.2(MNA)--Israel’s recent defeat in Gaza again showed that the Zionist regime’s military superiority is ineffective against the Islamic resistance movement Hamas. Through the offensive against Gaza, which was approved by the United States, the Israelis sought to achieve two major policy objectives, one internal and one external. In the external objective, Israel wanted to show the international community that Hamas is no longer able to defend the Palestinians and the movement does not deserve to be the representative of the Palestinian people. However, the policy almost completely backfired when Hamas rockets hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for the first time since the Persian Gulf War of 1991. The fact that the Hamas rockets hit their targets, shortly after a Hezbollah drone flew over Israel and passed near its nuclear facilities, was a disaster for Israel’s highly touted defense system called Iron Dome. At the internal level, the Israeli parliament’s rejection of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s national budget bill, which was full of increases in military expenditures, led Netanyahu to call early elections, which the parliament approved by dissolving itself. Netanyahu is currently trying to make an alliance with extremist parties to gain the majority of seats in the next Knesset. Perhaps the war on Gaza was launched to influence public opinion in Israel and pave the way for the Israeli government to adopt more extremist positions. The conflict between Hamas and Israel is like a street brawl in which each fighter is biting the fingers of the other and the one who opens his mouth first is the loser. By bombing Gaza and killing innocent civilians, Israel is trying to make Hamas open its mouth. But Hamas and the people of Gaza have shown that despite the carnage and destruction, they will never halt their resistance. In other words, Israel will not be able to get Hamas to stop biting.
