School Culture Needs To Be Reinforced

Sentul, W Java, Dec 4 (ANTARA) - The culture of the school needs to be reinforced for character building, said Indonesia`s Culture and Education Minister, Mohammad Nuh. Speaking at a function to mark the National Teachers` Day 2012 and the 67th anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers Union (PGRI), at the Sentul Convention Centre in the Bogor district of West Java, on Tuesday, Mohammad Nuh said that the school culture can be reinforced in five ways. According to him, the five ways are: by strengthening the academic culture of reasoning and honesty; by instilling values of nationalism and patriotism; by developing a peace-loving attitude, tolerance and mutual respect; by instilling values of democracy; and by promoting adherence to the law. The culture and education minister explained that with access to education coupled with the strengthening of school culture, the quality of Indonesia`s human resources will get even better. "Indonesia is increasingly able to manage the opportunities and the existing resources," said Nuh, adding that it is only through education that the welfare of the public can be enhanced. Therefore, he said that there should not be obstacles in the path of education. Also present at the event were President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Religious Affairs Minister, Surya Dharma Ali, and thousands of teachers from various provinces.
