Prime Minster Dung meets ASEM leaders

Beijing (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung separately received Prime
Ministers of Thailand and Italy , and President of Slovenia on the
sidelines of the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting summit (ASEM-7) in Beijing
on Oct. 25.

PM Dung congratulated Somchai Wongsawat for being ratified as Thai Prime
Minister and expressed his belief that his Thai counterpart would actively
contributed to strengthening the cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to boost cooperation in all fields, including rice
production and exports that is suitable with mutual benefits and contributes
to ensuring the world food security.

Meeting with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, PM Dung thanked the
Italian Government for ratification of a humanitarian aid package worth 1
million EUR to help people in the northwestern of Vietnam to overcome
the aftermaths of typhoon Kammuri.

He expressed his wish that the two countries would further develop
cooperation in trade, economy and investment, affirming that Vietnam
attached importance to relations with Italy , considering it an important
partner.

He hailed the up-coming Vietnam visit from Nov. 3-6 by the Italian
Economic Development Minister, who will be accompanied by representatives of
more than 100 large Italian enterprises.

The Italian PM stated his support to Vietnam in negotiation for
Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with the EU and would try to ask
EU to boost cooperation and soon recognise Vietnam 's market economy.

At the reception for Slovenian President Danilo Turk, PM Dung asked the two
sides to sign framework agreements on trade, economy and investment, start
negotiations on the Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and the
Agreement on Investment Encouragement and Protection.

President Danilo Turk asked Vietnam to play as a bridge for Slovenia
to access ASEAN countries.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem
received Portugal Foreign Minister Luis Amado.

Deputy PM Khiem asked the two sides to discuss the Agreement on Investment
Encouragement and Protection and the Agreement on Avoidance of Double
Taxation to create legal framework for development of trade and economic
ties and facilitate Portugal businesses in Vietnam .

In the afternoon the same day, Prime Minister Dung and the high-level
delegation of the Vietnamese Government left Beijing , wrapping up the
official visit to China and participation to the 7 th ASEM
