Iranian warships dock in Port Sudan

TEHRAN,Dec.9(MNA) – The Iranian Navy’s 23rd fleet of warships, comprised of the Jamaran destroyer and the Bushehr Helicopter carrier, docked in a Sudanese port on Saturday, according to the public relations department of the Iranian Navy. The statement said that the warships docked in Port Sudan after passing through the Bab-el-Mandeb, a strait connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, and completing their mission in the Red Sea and were officially welcomed by Sudanese officials. Abdulla al-Matri, head of the Sudanese navy in Port Sudan, on Saturday expressed delight over the arrival of Iranian warships and called for the expansion of friendly military relations between the two countries. The commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, had previously said that the Jamaran destroyer, as a “national symbol,” would convey the message of peace and friendship to regional countries. The Jamaran is Iran’s first domestically manufactured destroyer, which was launched in February 2010. The warship can carry helicopters and is equipped with torpedoes and electronic radar. It is 94 meters long and weighs over 1,500 tons. The destroyer is capable of engaging in surface, air, and undersea warfare. The Iranian Navy’s 22nd fleet of warships, comprised of the Khark warship and the Martyr Admiral Qandi destroyer, had docked in Sudan on October 29.
