12/12/12:Auspicious day for marriage registrations in Thailand

BANGKOK, December 12 (TNA) - Couples have kept flocking to district offices across Thailand since early Wednesday morning to register their marriage, as today, December 12, 2012 or 12/12/12 is mulled an auspicious day for officially tying their knots, particularly at the Bang Rak district Office in Bangkok, which means the "district of love" in Thai. The first couple, arriving at the Bang Rak District Office as early as about 3am, told reporters that they had traveled from Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in the Thai South to specially register their marriage on 12/12/12, believed to be a day of good luck. Officials at the Bang Rak District Office started checking required documents of couples since 6:30am, two hours before offering the marriage registrations service. A couple of a Thai woman and a French man from Chiang Mai province in the Thai North were, however, first offered their marriage registration due to their properly-prepared documents. The Bang Rak District Office, meanwhile, announced that it would offer the marriage registrations to only 55 couples, all of which had arrived there before 8am; while those who arrived later were suggested to register their marriage at other district offices.
