Iranian general advises U.S. to revise policy on terrorists in Syria

TEHRAN,Dec.24(MNA) – The chief of the general staff of Iran’s armed forces has advised the United States to revise its policy toward the terrorists that are fighting against the Syrian government and stop supporting them. “The U.S. government should revise its hasty policy to support Al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria,” Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said on Sunday. “With the coming of John Kerry… the U.S. government should allow the new secretary of state to make decisions based on the realities on the ground,” he added. U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday nominated John Kerry to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. Commenting on the Syrian crisis, Firouzabadi said, “Al-Qaeda terrorists are much weaker than what is depicted by media outlets about their actions in the country. “Every now and then, they show themselves through intimidating and killing innocent people and carrying out indiscriminate bombing attacks.” He went on to say that the majority of the Syrian people want the restoration of peace and calm in their country. “The armed forces that are defending the people in this country are powerful,” he said, adding that the Syrian government is in control of the situation. “Despite the publicity campaign of their supporters, support for the terrorists has fallen compared with the early days (of the crisis),” he said. In addition, Firouzabadi said that the world’s people “should open their eyes to realities in Syria and should not be deceived by news fabricated by Western, Hebrew, and Arab media outlets about the country.”
