Iran to pursue citizen’s death in U.S.

TEHRAN,Dec.25(MNA)– Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Monday that Iran will pursue the death of Iranian national Dariush Sarreshtehdar in the United States. According to Press TV, Sarreshtehdar was detained by the Customs and Border Protection at Washington’s Dulles International Airport and interrogated for five hours after returning from Tabriz, Iran, on the U.S. election night on November 6. Sarreshtehdar suffered a sudden heart attack two days later and died on the same day. Mehmanparast said, “A five-hour unusual interrogation and inhuman treatment of an elderly person like Mr. Dariush Sarreshtehdar is not an acceptable situation. “The relevant U.S. officials and organizations are expected to investigate the exact reasons for the measure and announce the results and also seriously deal with any act of negligence or fault. And, naturally, the Foreign Ministry will take the routine consular measures and also will do follow-ups to receive information and documents in regard to what led to the death of the Iranian citizen. “The purposeful trend of Iranophobia in the United States and various cases in regard to persistent efforts by U.S. security and judicial bodies to deceive, intimidate, threaten, and arrest Iranian citizens have created a situation which has made Iranians’ travel to the country dangerous.” Mehmanparast also advised Iranian citizens against non-essential travel to the United States and asked the Iranians who visit the country to exercise maximum caution.
