Iranian armed forces take delivery of domestically manufactured combat helicopters

TEHRAN,Jan.5(MNA) – During a ceremony held in Tehran on Wednesday, two domestically manufactured combat helicopters, named the Toufan 2 (Storm 2), were delivered to the Iranian Armed Forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The rotorcraft have been made by expert Iranian engineers of the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company, which is a subsidiary of the Iranian Defense Ministry. During the ceremony, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said that the helicopters use highly advanced electronic, optic, and laser technologies, which enable them to fire weapons with high precision. Vahidi also said that the Defense Ministry has planned for the mass production of Toufan 2 helicopters, adding that the helicopters will significantly increase the capability of Iranian armed forces to carry out combat operations. In May 2010, Iran unveiled the first version of domestically manufactured Toufan helicopters. The first version of the helicopter was equipped with high-tech Multi-Function Display (MFD), Head-Up Display (HUD), and advanced telecommunications systems. The Toufan rotary wing aircraft was armed with rockets, advanced anti-tank missiles, and a 20-millimeter gun and enjoyed a high maneuverability and agility.
