Two more foreign plays join Fajr festival lineup

TEHRAN,Jan.8(MNA) -- Two more foreign plays will be performed at the 31st Fajr International Theater Festival, which will begin in Tehran next week. South Korea’s Cho-In Theater Troupe is scheduled to perform “Hotel Splendid”, on the Japanese atrocities against Korean women during World War II. Chung-euy Park will direct the play, which has been written by acclaimed American playwright Lavonne Mueller. “Hotel Splendid” is a physical theater, which will be provided with English supertitles. Australian troupe Kropka Theater is scheduled to perform “DesdeMONA”, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s magnum opus “Othello”. Anatoly Frusin and Jolanta Juszkiewicz from Poland will jointly direct the play, which has been written by Juszkiewicz. Juszkiewicz, who is also an actress with a Polish background, is the founder of the Kropka Theater. The Kropka Theater website describes “DesdeMONA” a projection a bravura solo performance, a ritual of memory imbued with poetry, diverse dance-movement, and symbolic usage of costume. The actor clashes with the mechanisms of power, the violence of love, insanity and destruction. Othello “revised”. Switzerland’s Mass & Fieber and Iran’s Don Quixote Theater Troupe also plan to jointly perform “Tell/Zahhak” at the Fajr festival, which will be held in Tehran from January 15 to 31.
