My work is still unfinished in Iran, Julio Velasco says

TEHRAN,Jan.14(MNA) – Iran volleyball coach Julio Velasco said that his work is still unfinished in the Asian country. The 61-year-old coach, who recently extended his contract with the Iranian Volleyball Federation for another two years, made the remarks during a news conference in Tehran on Sunday. “Iran will have to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games -- that’s why I am here. I am working here for two years but my job is not done [yet],” Velasco said. “I’ve received some offers from teams, such as Argentina women’s volleyball team. I don’t want to talk about my offers but I have to make it clear that I didn’t have any offer from Russia,” he added. “Iran has made some progress but it still has room to improve. I am proud of that but not so much because I know this kind of praise could hurt your team,” Velasco said. “Iran failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games but we are going to book a place in the next Olympics, which will be held in Brazil. It’s not important that it happens with me or without me,” the Argentine declared. Velasco took charge of Iran volleyball team in March 2011 and advanced to the 2013 FIVB Volleyball World League for the first time, where the Iranian team has been drawn along with Russia, Italy, Cuba, Serbia and Germany.
