Ahmadinejad rejects Central Bank chief’s retirement request

TEHRAN,Jan.21(MNA) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad rejected Central Bank of Iran Governor Mahmoud Bahmani’s request that he be allowed to retire. “The president did not accept Mahmoud Bahmani’s request for retirement,” CBI official Ebrahim Darvishi told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday. Darvishi dismissed the speculation that there was a link between Bahmani’s request for retirement and the decision by the Majlis to launch an investigation of the Central Bank of Iran, which was approved by MPs on Sunday. In addition, Bahmani himself, who is 65, said he would remain in his post as the Central Bank governor. “Now, I have no intention to leave the government, and therefore I will remain at the Central Bank,” Bahmani told MNA on Sunday.
