Police Seize 1245 kgs Narcotic Drugs In Zahedan

Zahedan, Jan 23, IRNA – The commander of Sistan-Baluchestan Police announced the seizure of 1,245 kilograms of narcotics in Zahedan, capital of the province. According to a report by the Information Dissemination Center of the provincial police, Brigadier Hamid Fahimi-Rad said that while patrolling the border area, border police at Kouleh-Sangi Checkpoint confiscated the drugs from the smugglers during an armed clash. A number of the smugglers left behind the drugs and fled to neighboring countries, he said, adding that a man and a woman, were arrested during the operation. The confiscated drugs include 1,122 kilograms of opium, 123 grams of morphine and 530 grams of heroin. Iran lies on a major drug route between Afghanistan and the West. With a 900-km (560-mile) common border with Afghanistan, Iran has been used as the main route for smuggling Afghan narcotics to drug cartels in Europe and beyond./end
