‘Situation would be different if Iran had meddled in Bahrain’

TEHRAN,Jan.26(MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian dismissed the claims that Tehran is meddling in the internal affairs of Bahrain, saying the situation would have changed dramatically if Iran had interfered. “The uprising of the Bahraini people is simply an internal issue, and the claims that Iran is interfering in Bahrain are not true,” Amir-Abdollahian told on Friday. He also said that over the past two years, the Bahraini people have been pursuing their demands through democratic and peaceful actions, but nevertheless, they have faced suppression, deadly violence, and threats from the ruling family. Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian noted, “Were Iran involved in Bahrain’s affairs [even] a little bit, the situation would be different.” The Bahraini crisis can only be resolved through dialogue, and the Islamic Republic of Iran supports this approach, he stated. He added, “Given the democratic demands of the Bahraini people, we hope that the government will pave the way for talks by ending the military situation.”
