M'SIAN STUDENTS WILL SOON BE EXPOSED TO SPANISH TECHNOLOGY
KULIM (Malaysia), Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysian students will soon have an
opportunity to expose themselves to the latest Spanish Machine Tools Technology.
This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between
Universiti of Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) and Machine
Tool Manufacturers Associtiation of Spain (AFM) here Wednesday.
The MoU will enable UniKL students to conduct their industrial attachment
in
Spanish-based companies which are under the AFM.
Universiti Teknologi (UniTek) MARA Sdn Bhd (Universiti Kuala Lumpur)
chairman Muhamad Rais Zainuddin said the MoU would give students more
opportunities to work at international level.
"The MoU is part of the government-to-government collaboration in
facilitating transfer of knowledge and skills from Spain to Malaysia or
vice-versa," he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of International
Seminar on Advanced Development In Spanish Machine Tools Technology (ADeSMAT
2008) here Wednesday.
He said ADeSMAT 2008 manifested the combination of professional training
and
technology transfer between academic and industries.
"It could be the stepping stone for UniKL in materialising Malaysia's
vision of becoming an industrialised nation equipped with the latest
technology," added Muhamd Rais.
He said one would be enlightened with machine demonstration and exploring
investment or business opportunities through business matching and
networking.
Meanwhile, Spain's Ambassador to Malaysia Jose Ramon Baranano said about 10
Spanish company representatives were attending the seminar.
"The main objective is to introduce the cutting-edge machine tool
technology from Spain to enhance the industries' competitive advantage in
Malaysia," he told reporters.
Baranano said about 30 scholarships would be offered to qualified students
in technical and languages courses.
He added that the AFM was hoping to arrange a student exchange programme
between Malaysian and Spanish students to strengthen the ties of the two
nations.
