Iran, Senegal to reopen embassies

TEHRAN,Feb.11(MNA) – Iran and Senegal are set to reopen embassies after the resumption of bilateral relationship, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday.
After new Senegalese President Macky Sall took office, the two countries decided to resume their relations, Amir-Abdollahian added.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi met with the Senegalese president on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, on January 27, and discussed the case.
Then on February 6, following a meeting between Iranian and Senegalese presidents on the sidelines of an Islamic summit in Cairo, the foreign ministers of the two countries issued a statement, in which it was decided to promote their interest sections to embassies.
Amir-Abdollahian said efforts to send an Iranian ambassador to Senegal are underway and expressed hope that Senegal would follow suit.
“The question of establishing relations between the two countries is an important development in our relationship with an important country in West Africa… which has been positively received in Senegalese media,” said the Iranian official.
