Cardiac Rehabilitation Could Have 40 To 50 Per Cent Low Mortality
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Patients who participate in a cardiac
rehabilitation programme after undergoing cardiac intervention could have
between 40 and 50 per cent lower mortality rate.
Health deputy director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, although the
programme was relatively new in Malaysia, it was fast catching up with many
healthcare providers currently offering it as part of their move to help
patients with heart problems.
"It is now becoming important for healthcare providers to also introduce
cardiac rehabilitation to help patients recover from their illnesses and return
to work and lead quality life in society," he said at the launch of the Cardiac
Rehabilitation programme at the Prince Court Medical Centre here Thursday.
His speech was read out by Health Department (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya)
director Dr S. Balachandran.
Cardiac Rehabilitation programme comprises exercises, nutritional
counseling, emotional support and education on lifestyle modifications to reduce
risk of heart-related problems.
