Thai PM launches "green campaign"

BANGKOK, February 22 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra headed a "green" campaign in the heart of Bangkok on Friday to promote awareness and seek collaboration from all parties in the society on numerous environmental themes, including energy conservation. More than 2,000 people showed up at the rallying campaign at the Royal Plaza, including nationwide networks of environmentalists, community leaders and drivers of cabs and motorcycle taxis. Yingluck underscored power saving as one of five priorities of her government's green campaign, along with building a low-carbon economy and environmentally-friendly society and reducing pollution. The government's campaign also comprises promoting "green culture" on a sustainable basis, in which Thai people are encouraged to mostly wear Thai clothes. The prime minister also released a caravan of volunteers participating in the "green campaign", in which she also rode on a "Tuk Tuk", Thailand's unique motor-tricycle taxi, from the Royal Plaza to nearby Government House.
