Daoheuang to double volume of export of coffee

(KPL) The biggest Lao coffee company, “Daoheuang Import-Export Trade” is planning to increase the volume of its export to 10,000 tons per year and it is hoping to achieve this target by the end of this year.
Japan is the biggest importer of the coffee of this company and this country favours two types, -Arabica and Robusta. Normally, it imports three to four thousand tons of coffee per year.
Last year, Daoheuang exported 4,500 tons of coffee. Out of this, 2,100 tons were Arabica coffee and 2,400 tons were the Robusta variety.
The Daoheuang company is building a world class coffee processing plant at the cost of 30 million Euro and it is scheduled to be operational by 2010.
It is hoping to export more coffee to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. And to make it its main export market.
“Presently, our company nurtures coffee plants on 250 hectares of land and its annual yield is 500 tons of coffee beans but for this year the yield will exceed this amount as it is thriving in this year’s seasonal climate,” said
Daoheuang Chairwoman Leuang Lidang.
She also said that her company’s plantation cannot produce all the coffee that it needs for export and so it is getting the local coffee growers to grow the specific types of coffee that it needs and it would purchase the coffee crops from them.
