Iran denounces foreign intervention in Syria

TEHRAN,March 2(MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed strong disapproval of foreign intervention in Syria, saying certain parties are seeking to impose their will on the Syrian people through taking “hasty actions”.
Amir-Abdollahian, who is the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, made the remarks in an interview with the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency on Thursday in reference to the “Friends of Syria” meeting in Rome on the same day, at which Western and Arab states pledged aid for Syrian rebels.
After the “Friends of Syria” meeting, the United States said it would give non-lethal aid directly to rebels and would more than double its support to Syria’s civilian opposition, according to Reuters.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry official also said that Syria had weathered the security crisis and the few remaining irresponsible armed terrorists had come under control, but certain foreign parties were encouraging terrorist actions and sending weapons to achieve their goals.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian said the Iranian plan was the best practical and political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Iran has proposed a six-point plan to help resolve the Syrian crisis which calls for a halt to all acts of violence in Syria, the distribution of humanitarian aid among the people affected by the crisis which requires the lifting of economic sanctions against the country, national dialogue followed by the establishment of a transitional government agreed by all sides and free parliamentary and presidential elections, release of those arrested for peaceful political activities and a fair trial of criminals, an end to the campaign of misinformation against Syria, and the establishment of a committee to assess the damage to the country’s infrastructure.
