Majlis Speaker Warns West Against Forcing Iran To Change Policy

Tehran, March 10, IRNA – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani here on Sunday urged the West not to force Tehran to change its policy and reconsider its interaction with the Group 5+1. Larijani made the remarks criticizing the 5+1 member states (US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany) for what he said seemed to be ˈmaking excuses during the next round of talks with Iran.ˈ Addressing Majlis open session, the speaker said the Parliament was scrutinizing Iran-5+1 takjs and believed that the next round of talks between the two sides would be ˈa test to make another decision.ˈ ˈWestern states should notice that the policy of carrot and stick is no longer effective and that Iran would give the US no chance for another adventurism,ˈ Larijani stressed. He added comments made by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and certain countries after the end of the latest talks between Iran and the G5+1 in Almaty were ˈof no use to the next round of talks but they rather were considered as obstacles in the way of talks.ˈ ˈIran has repeatedly announced that it was pursuing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),ˈ said the speaker. Elsewhere, Larijani condemned latest terrorist attacks against Shiite Muslims in Pakistan, saying the attacks have afflicted the Iranian nation. He urged Islamabad to take necessary actions to prevent similar events in the future. Majlis condemns the terrorist act and urges the Pakistani parliament to take serious measures against perpetrators, Larijani said./end
