Iran warns West against compelling it to review cooperative approach

TEHRAN,March 11(MNA) – Iran has warned the parties negotiating with it over its nuclear program against taking any measure that would compel Tehran to review its cooperative approach. “After the recent talks between Iran and the 5+1 group in Kazakhstan, certain remarks of the International Atomic Energy Agency and others not only did not contribute to the negotiations but also are regarded as a kind of creating obstacles in the way of the negotiations,” Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said at an open session of the Majlis on Sunday in reference to the talks Iran held with the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France, and Germany in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on February 26 and 27 during which the two sides agreed to meet at the same venue in April. “The Majlis closely monitors the talks with the 5+1 group and regards the next negotiations as a litmus test” that may lead it to consider “another option,” Larijani said. He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly announced that our program for peaceful use of nuclear technology is within the framework of the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty).” “The West must be aware that the carrot and stick (policy) is no longer effective, and Iran will not give the United States time to carry out a new act of adventurism,” he said. “They should not take a measure that will compel the Islamic Republic to review its interactive approach,” Larijani added.
