Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Can Withstand Even 8-richter Quakes – Official

Bushehr, April 10, IRNA – Executive manager of Bushehr nuclear power plant Mahmoud Ja’fari said on Wednesday that the plantˈs structure is strong enough to resist earthquakes measuring even 8 Richter scale. He told reporters here in this southern city that the 6.1 magnitude earthquake which hit Dashti region, 100 kms away from the power plant, Tuesday evening had no effects on the power plant at all. He stressed that the daily routine in the Bushehr power plant is as normal and things are going as scheduled before. Ja’fari underlined that the earthquake had left no negative impact on the building and structure of the power plant. An earthquake measuring 6.1 on Richter scale jolted the Kaki region near the Persian gulf city of Bushehr Tuesday evening, claiming over 30 lives and injuring 850 people. Some 800 residential units were also destroyed./end
