Myanmar likely to resume gas supply to Thailand earlier than scheduled

BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - Myanmar is expected to resume its gas supply to Thailand earlier than scheduled, as the maintenance of its Yadana field has already been complete by 80 per cent. Chakree Buranakanon, Vice President of PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), who oversees gas business, told journalists of the development on Thursday, noting that the maintenance of the Yadana gas field has been some 10 per cent faster than planned. Chakree said it will likely now that Myanmar should resume its gas supply to Thailand as of midnight of April 13, hours before it earlier scheduled, from April 5-14, if there was not any problem during its post-maintenance tests. As Myanmar plans to repair another gas operational platform next year, the PTT vice president acknowledged that his company will negotiate with Myanmar to also repair the platform during the annual Songkran or traditional Thai New Year long-holiday, when power demand in Thailand is comparable lower than other periods.
