Thai band joins WGI Percussion World Championships
BANGKOK, April 13 (TNA) - A Drumline band of Satriwitthaya 2 School will represent Thailand in the WGI Percussion World Championships in the United States for the first time this month.
Parents, former students and executives of the school saw off the 60-member delegation of the Max Percussion Theatre band comprising 46 performers and 14 coaches and staffs at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.
The 3-time champion of the Thai Drumline championship is invited to the 35th WGI Percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, from April 14 to 23.
The team will join the Independent World Class Division contest in which about 24 teams are competing.
Boonsom Detthammarit, acting director of Satri Witthaya 2 School, said it was the first time for a team from Thailand to join the competition and that Thailand was the second country after Japan that is invited to participate in the event without having to go through any qualification rounds.
She said she was confident the school would be able to bring home the winner trophy, although they only had a short period of 3 months to train.
She said the team’s performance was called the Art of War and presents Asia’s Art of War in the form of music. (End)
