UN representative hails Iran’s cooperation

TEHRAN,April 15(MNA) – A senior UN representative in Tehran has hailed Iran’s cooperation with the organization, calling for more collaboration in all areas.
Gary Lewis, United Nations new resident coordinator in Tehran, made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi here on Saturday.
He added, “Iran can count on the role of the United Nations’ agencies, funds and programs on the ground, to work in partnership - and with transparency, impartiality and respect - to deliver on mutually-agreed development goals.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, the UN official expressed his condolences over the recent earthquake in city of Bushehr in southern Iran that took the lives of 37 people and injured over 950 others.
For his part, Salehi said that Iran has contributed significantly to the UN to help solve regional issues and fulfill its heavy tasks.
He also elaborated on Iran’s activities to realize UN’s developing plans in the region, adding that Tehran always attaches great importance to cooperation with the United Nations because developments in the Middle East region are sensitive.
During the meeting, Lewis also submitted his credentials to the Iranian foreign minister.
