Sydney gallery displaying works by Iranian artist
TEHRAN,April 15(MNA) -- A collection of photos and an installation work by the Iranian artist Shaqayeq Mazlum are currently on display in an exhibition at the MILS Gallery in Sydney.
Entitled “In-Between”, the collection resonates with themes of displacement and imaginative geography.
The central idea refers to the personal experience of departure and returning to the country, and the paradoxical state of living in a place in-between.
She has taken the photos in different places near the borders of Iran and she then assembled them together in a mosaic method to refer to the mental situation of fragmentation and dislocation.
Shaqayeg (Shay) Mazlum has held several national and international exhibitions so far, among them a solo show in Gallery Barry Keldoulis in Sydney in 2011.
Recently, She curated “(B)orders, Orders, (Dis)orders” as a travelling exhibition with artists participating from Australia, USA, UK, Finland, Canada and Iran, which will be displayed at DNA projects during Art Month Sydney in 2013.
Some of her works were also on display during a group exhibition entitled “16th International Open” at the Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. in March 2013.
The showcase will run until April 28 at the gallery.
