Preparation of Anti-Human Trafficking

(KPL) The Ministry of Public Security has claimed to host the 6th Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of Combodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China on human trafficking.
The meeting to be held in this month is part of the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT), said at a press conference last Friday in Vientiane Maj. Khamkeo Manola, Head of anti-Human trafficking Service, the Ministry of National Security. “Every year women and children in the Mekong Sub-region suffer from human trafficking, prostitution and illegal labour. So every member country in the region should make efforts in fighting against such negative acts.”
Since 2004, COMMIT has made major progress in counter-human trafficking efforts across the region.
A memorandum of understanding against trafficking in persons (MOU) signed by the six Mekong Sub-region states in 2004 initiated the COMMIT process and stemmed from a recognition by the governments in the region that existing national responses were insufficient to address trafficking.
This MOU covers all aspects of counter-human trafficking responses and specifically highlights the need for all key stakeholders to work together to maximise resources, improve targeting and make real impact.
