Iran has test-fired new missile in Persian Gulf: general

TEHRAN,April 17(MNA) – Iran has test-fired a new land-to-sea missile in the Persian Gulf, the deputy defense minister said on Tuesday. “This land-to-sea missile has been produced through modifying the function of surface-to-surface missiles,” Brigadier General Majid Bokaei said. “After being launched and leaving the atmosphere, the new missile… re-enters the atmosphere at high speed and completely destroys the intended warship,” he explained. When the missile was tested in the Persian Gulf, all the warships and vessels of the enemy moved away from the country’s borders, the general added. Elsewhere in his remarks, Bokaei said that the strength of Iranian naval forces in the Persian Gulf lay in the use of speedboats and the enemy had realized that the only way to deal with speedboats was to use helicopters. He went on to say that Iran had manufactured the Qaher 313 (Dominant 313) fighter jet to deal with the enemy’s naval helicopters in the Persian Gulf. In February, Iran unveiled the domestically designed Qaher 313, which has been designed and manufactured by experts at the Aviation Industries Organization of the Defense Ministry. The fighter plane is made of advanced components and is able to avoid radar detection and fly at low altitudes.
