MALAYSIANS RALLY TO AID PAKISTAN QUAKE VICTIMS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysian organisations and individuals have rallied to help alleviate the suffering of Pakistan's earthquake victims.

The Pakistan High Commission here in a press statement Monday said the
Islamic Relief Fund of Malaysia had donated three tonnes of food items while
Mercy Malaysia had sent two members of its Rapid Assessment Team there.

The Islamic Relief Fund's food donation included rice, wheat and condensed
milk for each quake victim while Mercy Malaysia's members would assess the
damage and identify the victims' requirements before the non-governmental
organisation would decide on the type of aid to be sent, the statement
said.

It also said that individual Malaysians had also been donating warm
clothing and other items aside from good samaritans enquiring on how to give
cash donations to the victims.

An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the richter scale hit south-western Pakistan
on Oct 29 and an early report revealed that at least 300 people were killed with
more than 2,000 houses destroyed and over 15,000 people made homeless.

The Pakistan High Commission said it had opened an Affin Bank account
number -- 100020307188 -- and Malaysians wanting to donate could do so by
banking in their contributions. For enquiries, the public can contact First
Secretary Rukhsana Afzaal at 03-2164 7014.
