Local investors to grow maize for export

(KPL) Foodstuff State Enterprise Company of Borikhamsay province is cooperating with KP Agriculture Promotion Company of Xiengkhouang province to grow maize in four districts of Borikhamsay province, such as Paksan, Pakkading, Borikhanh and Thaphabath districts.
According to sources the two companies are planning to plant maize on 30 hectares of land in the four districts and the villagers of 47 villages would be involved in it. Its progress would be closely monitored and then a decision would be made to increase the planting to 100 hectares.
The Maize Planting Promotion Project is trying to encourage the local people in Bolikhamsay province to plant this crop instead of others, said the director of Foodstuff State Enterprise, Mr Khamly Panyanouvong. The joint companies would not only provide technical assistance but it would also buy the maize from the farmers, he added.
“We are giving the assurance that our price is 1.200 kip per kilo and it would be on the basis of delivery to our premises, said Mr Khamly.
He also said that the joint company would bring the hybrid maize seeds from Vietnam to give to local growers because its rate of production is high, 79 tons per hectare.
“There is a market for maize in Thailand and Vietnam,” said the director
