"Green agriculture" developed in Thailand

BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) - Thailand, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, is developing "green agriculture, to bring about and sustain the country's environmentally-friendly farming, as part of national attempts to cope with the deteriorating problem of global warming or climate change. While delivering a keynote speech in Bangkok on Thursday at the opening ceremony of Thailand Green Livestocks Expo 2013, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Yukol Limlamthong stressed the need for the Thai farming sector to be prepared for agricultural challenges in several aspects, including growing impacts of climate change, increasing use of arable farmlands for plantations of crops for alternative energy production and more complicated trade barriers. According to the minister, the Thai government has worked out national strategies to address the issues, one of which is aimed to further develop people’s quality of life, in parallel with environment protection. The agriculture and cooperatives minister acknowledged that his ministry has implemented parts of the national strategies, namely zonings of farmlands set to be complete nationwide within this month, as well as developing reliable farm database and production to concretely meet the nationally-targeted "green agriculture" position.
