Scotland, Vietnam Champs Of Divsion Two And Three In Sudirman Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Scotland and Vietnam emerged as the champions in Division Two and Three on the sixth day of the 2013 Sudirman Cup Badminton Championship at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil here Friday. Scotland who were in Group 2A defeated Group 2B champions Holland 3-1 thus gaining promotion to Division One in the next edition of the championship in 2015. The other matches in the group saw Russia defeating France 3-0; the United States downing Austria 3-0 while Sweden edged Canada 3-2. Meanhwile, Vietnam who were drawn in Group 3A had little difficulty overcoming champions of Group 3B Ukraine, defeating the European side 3-1 to move up to Division Two in 2015. In other matches in the group, the Philippines edged Switzerland 3-2; Australia did likewise against New Zealand; Sri Lanka beat Lithuania 3-1 and Turkey whipped Kazakhstan 3-0. The Badminton World Federation are expected to name the hosts for the 2015 edition of the Cup in January next year. The semifinals kick off Saturday with China taking on Denmark while South Korea will be up against Thailand. The final will be held at the same venue at 2pm on Sunday. -- BERNAMA
