Two engineering students awarded Honda scholarship

(KPL) Two students from the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos were awarded the Honda Young Engineer and Scientist’s Award (“YES Award”) scholarships, worth 25.5 million kip (USD 3,000) each.
The scholars are Mr. Somsay Thongketh, a fourth year student of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Mr Veunsone Sengsouthit, a fifth year student of the Communication and Transport Department. This is the first time that this scholarship was awarded to students in Laos.
The presentation ceremony, which was held at the National University of Laos (Dongdok campus) last Friday was witnessed by Associate Professor Dr. Saykhong Saynasin, who is the Vice-President of the National University of Laos and the Charge d’affaires of the embassy of Japan
to Laos, Mr. Yoiji Harada.
The Honda Young Engineer and Scientist’s Award (“YES Award”) is an independent programme supported by the Honda Foundation of Japan. It was launched in Vietnam in 2006 and in India in 2007. It extended to Laos and Cambodia in 2008.
The aims of this award are to nurture the future leaders of the recipient countries and to assist the Southeast Asia region achieve a balanced advancement in science and technology.
