Imposing no-fly zone over Syria violates international law: Iranian MP

TEHRAN,June 19(MNA) - Senior Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Saleh Jokar said an effort by certain Western governments to impose a no-fly zone over Syria would be a blatant violation of international law.
In an interview with Iran’s parliament news agency ICANA on Tuesday, Jokar said, “Political solution is the only way out of the crisis in Syria and any military intervention by foreign powers would be a fatal mistake which only worsens the situation in the Arab country.”
“The main strategy pursued by the United States and other allies is to change the power balance in the Middle East so that the Zionist regime can gain the upper hand in the region,” said Jokar, who is a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the parliament.
Some analysts argue support for militants in Syria by certain Arab and Western countries is primarily aimed at undermining the axis of resistance against the Zionist regime of Israel.
For example, they say, the West has kept mum on the popular uprising for democracy in Bahrain while it has backed the violent actions of extremists in Syria.
“Imposing a no-fly zone over Syria is in line with the West’s policy to weaken the resistance front and to protect Israel and other subservient governments,” the lawmaker said in conclusion.
The MP added, “It is more than two years since the start of the Islamic Awakening which has led to ouster of West’s puppet regimes in the Middle East and now the U.S. and its allies are trying to save their remaining allies in the region.”
