Maybank Interviews Five Candidates For CEO Post

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's largest financial services group and the leading banking group in South East Asia, Maybank has so far interviewed five potential candidates for the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), says Chairman Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor. He said the interviews were ongoing and the result would be announced soon. Megat Zaharuddin said the potential candidates were from within Maybank and external sources with good track records in banking. The new CEO post is to replace former President/CEO, Abdul Wahid Omar, who left to become the Minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit. It was widely reported that the potential internal candidates were Maybank current Officer-in-Charge/group Chief Financial Officer Mohd Rafique Merican Mohd Wahiduddin, investment banking head Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Bank Internasional Indonesia President Director Khairussaleh Ramli. Bursa Malaysia (Malaysia's Stock Exchange) CEO Tajuddin Atan and Axiata Group Bhd President Jamaludin Ibrahim, were also reported to be on the list of external candidates. "We are looking for the best candidate and one who clearly understands the challenges," he told reporters after presenting Maybank Scholarship Award to 51 deserving students worth US$9.32 million (RM30 million, US$1 = RM3.21). -- BERNAMA
