10th Tehran International Cartoon Biennial picks winners
TEHRAN,July 2(MNA) – Winners of the 10th Tehran International Cartoon Biennial were announced during a ceremony held at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) on Sunday.
Iran’s Cartoon House Masud Shojaei-Tabatabaii, Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Hamid Shahabadi and jury members Kambiz Derambakhsh and Bahram Azimi attended the award-giving ceremony.
This year the biennial focused on the themes of “Persian Cat”, “Dilemma” and “Superstition”. The cartoon section of the biennial was dedicated to works on “Superstition”, “Persian Cat” was the theme of the caricature section and “Dilemma” was the focus of the comic strip section.
In the comic strip section, the first award was given to Mehdi Alibeigi (Iran), the second to Vladim-Konoplyansky (Russia) and the third to Ahmet Aykanat (Turkey).
In the cartoon section, Saeid Farhangian (Iran) was awarded the first, Leslie Ricciardi (Uruguay) the second and Amir-Hossein Sazur (Iran) the third.
In the caricature section, Mehdi Alibeigi (Iran), Carlos Hierrezuelo (Cuba) and Pablo Lopez (Uruguay) received the first to third awards.
Omar Turcios (Spain), Abolfazl Bahrami (Iran) and Saeid Farhangian (Iran) received the first, second and third awards in the “Persian Cat” caricature section.
Winners of the “Superstition” section were Pavel Kuczynski (Poland), Bahram Arjomandnia (Iran) and Saeid Sadeqi (Iran).
The 10th Tehran International Cartoon Biennial, displayed over 500 works by Iranian and foreign cartoonists at Tehran’s Saba Art and Cultural Institute for one month opening in mid-May.
A selection of the works was displayed in Yasuj, Kohkiluyeh-Boyer Ahmad Province, concurrent with the Tehran exhibit. The Ahvaz Museum of Contemporary Art is the next host.
