Investigation launched into boxing brawl
The Boxing Authority of NSW is set to conduct an investigation into the post-fight brawl which erupted at Central Coast Leagues Club on Friday night after hot prospect Willie Kickett was sensationally knocked out by Ahmed Elomar. Chairs, cans and bottles were thrown following the first round KO which resulted in highly rated Kickett suffering his first loss in 14 professional contests. A brawl eventuated both inside and outside the ring, with a few people suffering cuts and bruises.
Fox Sports, which was telecasting the promotion live, cut short their coverage as the incident escalated.
Several of Elomar's supporters moved in to the ring to celebrate their man's shock victory, but taunting and fighting between the two sets of supporters subsequently developed. Various objects were thrown into the ring and fights broke out before Fox Sports
commentator Andy Raymond helped calm the situation by pleading to the crowd and telling them their actions were being filmed and the police were on their way.
The result of the bout will stand.
Boxing Authority of NSW executive officer Craig Waller said his organisation
intended investigating the incident and would review tapes.
Waller told boxing internet site SecondsOut that any person or boxer licensed by his
authority found to be acting inappropriately could face a lengthy ban.
Newly crowned, undisputed super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan was among the
spectators at the promotion in Gosford.
