Book of Gunther Uecker’s “Injuries and Connections” published

TEHRAN,July 6(MNA) – A book containing materials about German sculptor and op artist Gunther Uecker’s exhibition “Injuries and Connections” in Iran was released on Thursday. The exhibit was held at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) in September and November 2012. The book also entitled “Injuries and Connections” contains articles by German Ambassador Brand Erbel and a number of Iranian organizers and images of Uecker’s works for the exhibition. Published by the TMCA, the 200-page book is in Persian, English and German. His displayed works were divided into two sections: the first part includes Uecker’s paintings and sculptures that display the injuries. The second part covers Uecker’s works on pieces of paper indicating his concerns about human sufferings. Uecker, 83, is considered as one of the most famous German artists since World War II. His oeuvre includes paintings, object arts and installations as well as stage designs and films. He is mostly interested in eastern European avant-garde of the 1920s and 1930s, but he is likewise fascinated by Asian cultures and their ideas. His works can be seen in collections and at large fairs in both the West and the East. Uecker’s artistic creativity reached a climax in 2000 with the prayer room he designed for the rebuilt Reichstag building in Berlin. His works also went on display during an exhibition at the Isfahan Museum of Contemporary Arts in May 2013.
