Nitrogen system, Thailand's innovation to kill rice pests

BANGKOK, July 18 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Science and Technology has introduced an innovative system under which nitrogen is used to kill rice pests and fungi and is considered a safest natural method for consumers, while preserving harvested rice to last longer. Thailand's National Innovation Agency, in cooperation with the local private sector, announced the domestically-developed innovation in Bangkok on Wednesday. Thai Science and Technology Minister Peeraphan Palusuk told journalists that the innovative system has been proven safer for consumers and can replace the use of such the chemicals as methyl bromide and phosphine in mills. According to the minister, the innovation will be, especially, used in organic Thai rice, which has been steadily exported to the European and the US markets. (TNA)
