Iran dismisses Iraqi claims it sends arms to Syria

TEHRAN,July 20(MNA)– Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi on Wednesday dismissed remarks by Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari about the possibility of arms shipment by Iran to Syria through Iraq’s airspace. Iraq has occasionally inspected Iranian planes headed to Syria, in which it later announced that it had found no military equipment, he said, adding in some cases Iraqi officials found that Iranian planes were carrying food and medicine to Syria. In an interview published by the Asharq al-Awsat newspaper on July 13, the Iraqi minster said Iraq lacks the means to stop Iranian arms deliveries to Syria through its airspace, if there are any.
