FM: Iran Backs Iraqˈs Security, Progress

Tehran, July 22, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that Iran has always supported Iraqˈs security, development and progress. Speaking to Iraqi Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lava al-Samim here on Sunday, Salehi said abundant cultural, religious and historical commonalities between Iranian and Iraqi people have linked the two countries. He emphasized implementation of the already signed contracts, saying they would further expand bilateral ties in economic, commercial and tourism fields. He also underlined continued cooperation and consultation to facilitate visits by their nationals pilgrims to both countries. He stressed implementation of joint projects and investment by their private sectors in the tourism field. The Iraqi minister, for his part, said his country is ready for cooperation with Iranian officials and for removal of impediments to their tourists and pilgrimsˈ visits. He said his country wants to share experience with Iran in protecting historical and cultural monuments./end
