Iranian athletes win gold medals at IPC Athletic

TEHRAN,July 22(MNA)--Iran’s Mohammad Khalvandi and Mohsen Kaedi clinched two gold medals at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships on Saturday. In the men's javelin throw - F57/58, Mohammad Khalvandi won the gold medal with a throw of 50.23 meters. Brazilian Claudiney Santos seized the silver medal with 44.94meters. Raed Salem of Egypt finished in third place with a throw of 46.46meters in the class. Mohsen Kaedi also won a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw – F33/34, breaking his own Paralympic record. The Iranian claimed a gold medal with a throw of 43.41meters. Kaedi had won the gold in the 2012 Paralympic Games with a throw of 38.30meters Chinese Yanzhang Wang finished in second place with a throw of 39.45meters and Colombian Mauricio Valencia (38.80meters) won the bronze medal. The 11 athletes are featuring Iran in the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships which began on July 19 in Lyon, France and will run until July 28. Approximately 1,100 athletes from 99 countries are participating at the event. The majority of medal winners from London are competing in Lyon as they start their preparations for the next Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.
