Tehran, July 23, IRNA – The managing director of Irans Power Plant Projects Management Company (MAPNA) says the country has the capacity to export 20,000 megawatts of electricity to regional states in future. Talking to IRNA on Tuesday, Abbas Aliabadi added that regional countries are good markets for Iran's electricity. Iran's current electricity exports stand at 1,400 megawatts, he noted. Stating that MAPNA has been established for export purposes, Aliabadi said that gas reserves, especially joint fields, are valuable assets which help promote job creation in the country. Iran's capacity for setting up power plants is 70,000 megawatts and it ranks 14th in the world in this respect, he said, noting that this is while Turkey with the same population as that of Iran generates as much as two third of the Islamic Republic. He further stated that Pakistan with a population of three times that of Iran generates only 14,500 megawatts of electricity which is one fifth of Iran's. The statistics reveal that neighboring states of Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan and India and Persian Gulf littoral states are good markets for Iran's electricity./end
