Foreign diplomats, int'l representatives briefed on Thailand's situation

BANGKOK, August 5 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited foreign ambassadors and representatives of international organizations in Thailand to a briefing on the domestic situation for the sake of their proper understanding. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told journalists that the briefing was set at the Ministry of Foreign Ministry in Bangkok on Monday afternoon, at 3pm. Surapong said his ministry was informing the international top envoys and representatives reasons for the Thai government to impose the Internal Security Act (ISA) in Bangkok's three districts in the vicinity of the Government House and the Parliament, including Dusit, Prom Prap Sattru Phai and Phra Nakhon, from August 1-10, in order to ensure social order amid confusing rumors, namely a groundless speculation on a military intervention on domestic politics. As a handout of compact discs containing an English-versioned statement of Prime Minister and Defence Minister's invitation of all parties concerned to discuss solutions to domestic political issues was set as part of the briefing to show that the Thai government is seeking cooperation to protect pleasant atmosphere for investment and tourism, Surapong foresaw that the prime minister’s proposal should be acceptable to democratic communities worldwide. According to the deputy prime minister, he wishes that the international community then understand the Thai government property following the briefing, before demonstrators, probably, file their letters with foreign embassies in Bangkok.
