Thai workers in Malaysia return home for Hari Raya celebrations
NARATHIWAT, Thailand, August 7 (TNA) - Crowds of Thai Muslim workers are crossing the border at checkpoints in Waeng, Tak Bai and Sungai Kolok districts of Narathiwat province in the Thai far South, as they are returning home from their workplaces in Malaysia to celebrate the Hari Raya or Eid al-Fitr festival at the end of their annual fasting month of Ramadon later this week.
More immigration officials have, thus, been on duty to facilitate the return of the Thai Muslim workers, while passenger vans are serving more travelers and more vans are deployed to meet the growing demand.
Meanwhile, security authorities are thoroughly checking vehicles at all border crossings in the Thai deep South.
The intensified security measures are also imposed at ferry piers and temporary border crossings in the southernmost Thai region, as there are intelligence reports on possible violent incidents. (TNA)
